Avocado Ridgetop Farm STR / Family Estate
Long Houses paralleling both the long whale-back ridge of the site and the long DeLuz Valley to the west, which extends south to the Pacific Ocean (near Oceanside) and north to the prominent San Bernardino Mountains, capture spatially the spirit and grandeur of this 100-mile long valley from ‘the ridge’ as well as the climate / weather (prevailing winds / fog) that move up this valley from the Pacific toward the Los Angeles Basin. Additionally, the short ends of these Long Houses focus on the most distant south / north views (Pacific Ocean / San Bernardino Mountains) with their telescopic ends (bringing them closer), while their long horizontally panoramic sides frame the long west ridge of the DeLuz Valley and the Granite Hills to the east. By paralleling west slope contours (just off / below ridgeline nose) avoids viewing existing ridgetop house by focusing away from and around ridgetop house directly to south, which maximizes feeling ‘of being the only one on the ridge’. Shown is preferred option of (1) Communal (Family) Villa w/ Facilities w/ Guest Villa, (1) Master Villa, (4) 2BR Villas and (1) 1BR Villa stepped and arrayed down the slope to maximize views and ‘the only one’ experience. See progress for discussion of all options + Farm.

Avocado Ridgetop Farm STR / Family Estate
WBA was commissioned to provide a Conceptual Master Plan for a Family / STR Estate within a future Avocado Farm near Temecula, CA on a largely undeveloped long-whale-back ridge site within the long DeLuz Valley which extends south to the Pacific and north to the San Bernardino Mountains. Shown are additional options with Long Houses perpendicular and paralleling the ridge / DeLuz valley and how the latter can be staggered from the ridgeline / highline to allow uninterrupted long views to the south and north (with Orchard / Garden) while always capturing uninterrupted views to the east and west. The Avocado Orchard as planned (following McMillan Farmer Chuck Bandy’s advice) flows down the long whale-back ridge where its widening tail touches the valley floor on the north. This wider orchard at base of ridge will flow up nicely from newly created avocado orchard on adjacent property to north and then narrow along the back of the ridge toward the top of the ridge. Also, following Chuck’s advice, we have showed Citrus / Exotic Fruit Orchard along the ridgeline / highline and around the Long Houses just off the ridge at the top of the west slope.
