Mangrove Island Resort

North Barrier Island, UAE

Option B proposes an alternative approach to scale of recently enlarged North Barrier Island relative to small nature of project’s given program. Firstly, reclaim a significant portion of the original Barrier Island for a government-supported Marine Mangrove Preserve and focus the remainder of Island Development on the most secluded Seafront possible – facing the most private expansive Emirati Green of the Persian Gulf. Our proposal positions (4) Private Island Resort Clusters along their own 400M Seafront within their own Nature Preserve with zero potential impact from the unknown development of Al Maya Island to the south and Barrier Island immediately west. The Hotel and future Hotel Suite expansion is the same as Option A albeit with a more exclusive Beachfront to south protected by proposed Mangrove Preserve. This radical approach could be least up-front development cost and least long-term operational costs (landscape will not require water) achieving the highest possible standard in terms of site sustainable development setting the stage for future net positive ‘sea current technologies. With this CO2-producing proposal, the Mangrove Island becomes ‘a world away from the city’ and a global destination that leverages the one-of-a-kind natural history of this Emirate of Islands as an exemplar for Abu Dhabi – ‘Land of Islands’- and its inherited heritage for generations to come.
