The NAS Safari Zoo Pavilion site is a sublime edge condition with a significant prospect (view) from the height of an ancient paleo sands (sand dune) promontory including an idyllic north Emirati desert view of the long Dubai skyline punctuated by the Burj Khalifa, a hyper-panoramic view across the entire Nas Zoo Safari grounds from northeast to the distant west with long westerly views of western sunsets and reverse sunrises. Memorably, the site is characterized by a mature-botanical-grove-of–large-specimen-Ghaf-Trees teeming with Arabian Desert Birds/Birdsong, which provide a desirable shade visor for the entire prospect. Therefore, our proposal for the Pavilion is a thermally-broken-double-thinshell-concrete-ribbon-treehouse that is tautly woven through and around the most mature Ghaf Trees in an emphatic embrace in the spirit of regional-royal-courtyard-houses including the original preserved Sheikh House. Our design concept creates multiple courts/courtyards (enclosures) of varying scales with multiple self-shaded-scalar-frames to the different prospects which can responsibly incorporate large expanses of perimeter-insulated-glass-walls embedded with the latest technology for passive-active-energy-performance as well as automated-internal-external-shade and massive-operability-in-most-opportune-locations. Additionally, many courts (enclosures) and/or the elevated plinth with indoor / outdoor water-stage allow for living with the animals safely, where what is inside and what is outside, what is enclosed and whom is enclosed, is blurred and/or erased.
